Colorful Netherlands: Tulip Season
Spring in Netherlands is for most associated with tulips. Zuid, the South, is that part of the country where I lived and where for a stretch of ¾ weeks in April you can appreciate and enjoy very colorful fields.
This period in fact it is called the Tulip Season! Every year all roads around the plantations get crowded with tourists arriving from all over the globe to admire the geometry, the smell and the vibrancy of these flowers fields, and also to buy some.
The weather at this time is quite good, the amount of daylight is increasing little by little and if you are lucky you can experience glorious sunny days but with not too hot temperatures.
It is impressive to see these vast fields all colored and full of life.
A friend of mine from there once told me that the reason why everything is so well cared it is based on a strong sense of proudness Dutch people have around tulips.
Riding next to these fields is something difficult to describe: colors everywhere and such an intense aroma coming from the flowers (not just tulips, but also hyacinths for instance).
For some the best time to ride your bike in the Netherlands is summer, due to warmer temperatures, but to me this one in April it is probably the most enjoyable one and if anybody ask me when it is time to come visiting the country I always have the answer ready for them.
